A SANCTUARY EXPERIENCE

The Sanctuary Experience is a Brahma Kumaris' project designed to support an atmosphere of peace and stillness for people traumatised by natural and manmade disasters. This atmosphere helps people to centre and ground themselves and return to a state of calm through gentle music, guided meditations and silence.

“When we become peaceful, we spread peace in the atmosphere.”

When people are affected by natural and/or manmade disasters, the body may go into a fight, flight or freeze mode.  The ability to process thought may be lost and making even the simplest decisions can be difficult.  Consequently, people may lose connection with their own inner wisdom at a time when they need it most.

“A healer does not heal you. A healer is someone who holds a space for you while you awaken your inner healer so that you may heal yourself."

Following trauma-informed guidelines, Carmen Warrington has created a series of meditations that support people to restore a sense of balance which can assist them in moving from a state of emotional stress to a state of relative inner stillness, from where healing can begin.

Carmen is well-known for her BK commentaries and also her ABC series 'Meditations for Life', in partnership with master percussionist, David Jones.

She supports people to connect with their own inner peaceful sanctuary.

These meditations, taken together, provide a space to feel calm, secure and safe.  They provide a little time for some self-care, a gentle place of rest and comfort, a healing space.

In addition, many BKs have been trained as Emotional and Spiritual Support Personnel in the Victorian Council of Churches, Tasmanian Council of Churches and NSW Disaster Chaplaincy Response Network Emergencies Ministry programs.

  2. Awaken a memory of your deepest peace and calm ... gently remember ... allowing calm feelings to flow into you and through you ...
  3. Connect to the feeling of deep calm ... absorbing ... filling ... gently returning to your inner-most calm place ...
  4. Feeling empowered ... at your calm centre ... let calm flow out and into your life.
